Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek
Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is one of the finest trekking in Nepal which takes into the foothill of Mount Kanchenjunga- 3rd highest mountain in the world. Kanchenjunga Trekking is a trek in Nepal which goes to the border of Sikkim and Tibet.
Kanchenjunga Trekking is one of the restricted trekking route of Nepal where foreigners have to issue a special permit and should take Nepali local trekking guide while trekking. Kanchenjunga Circuit Trekking offers the range of scenery views of snowcapped mountains as well as the local culture and living styles of locals of Kanchenjunga region.
As Kanchenjunga (8,586m) is the third tallest mountain in the world it was first summited by two British climbers in 1955. Kanchenjunga circuit trek is described as one of the extreme trekking in Nepal which is relatively untouched and unspoilt than other trekking regions in Nepal.
As Nepal trekking is a seasonal adventure, best trekking season for Kanchenjunga circuit are the months of September-November and March-May when trekkers can get the maximum of Kanchenjunga Circuit.
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel (1334 m): Upon you arrival in Tribhuvan International Airport, a Visit Heaven Trek representative will be there for your warm welcome and help you to transfer to the hotel. In free time take rest and get a refresh from the jetlag. In evening join, a welcome dinner organises by Visit Heaven Trek Team. Overnight.
Day 2: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing: A guided full day sightseeing is dedicated to introducing some of the UNESCO World Heritage listed sites of Kathmandu including, Soyambhunath-“The Monkey Temple”, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath and historical Kathmandu Durbar Square. Overnight.
Day 3: Fly from Kathmandu to Biratnagar (81 m) and Drive to Phidim (1,179m): Today we fly from Kathmandu to Biratnagar. From Biratnagar, we take the private vehicle and drive to Phidim for overnight. Overnight in Phidim.
Day 4: Drive to Suketar (2,420 m): This day we will drive to Suketar from Phidim. We will stay overnight at Suketar. Overnight.
Day 5: Trek to Mitlung (921 m/ 4-5 hrs): Starting day of trekking. The trail from Suketar descends and we cross several small local settlements before reaching Mitlung. It takes approx. 4-5 hours walk to reach Mitlung. Overnight.
Day 6:: Mitlung to Chirwa (1,270 m/5-6 hrs): With some ups and downs today we first trek to Sinwa. The trail from Sinwa first descends to Tawa it then ascends which gradually take us to Chirwa for
Day 7: Chirwa to Sukathum (1,576 m/5-6 hrs): Setting destination Sukathum today we will trek through the dense forest , with some uphill and downhill along Tamor river and eventually reach to Sukatham. Overnight.
Day 8: Sukathum to Amjilosa (2,308 m /6-7 hrs): From Sukatham we first cross the suspension bridge we then walk through the dense forest. As we have to walk through difficult trail this day is levelled as tough trekking day. With a challenging 7 hours walk, we will reach to Amjilosa for overnight.
Day 9: Trek to Gyabla (2,730 m/ 6-7 hrs): After a challenging previous day, today’s trail is relatively easy one. From Amjilosa, the route goes through the dense forest and with some uphill and downhill we reach Gyabla for overnight. Gyabla is a Tibetan settlement where we can enjoy local foods and hospitality. Overnight.
Day 10: Gyabla to Ghunsa (3,595 m/5-6 hrs): From Gyabla we take descending trail to Phale. Phale is a Tibetan refugee settlement and a small market for handicrafts. From Phale, we trek through forest and reach Ghunsa for overnight. Stay overnight at Ghunsa.
Day 11: Rest day at Ghunsa: As we are gaining elevation we take rest this day. In the afternoon, we can do short trekking to Laspan La monastery. Enjoy free day. Overnight.
Day 12: Trek to Kambachen (4,050 m/5-6 hrs) : From Ghunsa, today we will trek through rhododendron and pine forest and will also experience some challenging mountain walk to reach Kambachen. Along the way, we will be rewarded by spectacular mountain views. Reach Kambachen and stay overnight.
Day 13: Acclimatization Day at Kambachen: Another rest in Kambachen, this day we will enjoy exploring Kambachen. Stay overnight in Kambachen.
Day 14: Kambachen to Lhonak (4,780 m/6-7 hrs): A challenging trekking day today we have to start early morning. We first trek through rocky fields. Further, we cross the bridge and reach Ramtang monastery. From there we descend down to get Lhonak for overnight.
Day 15: Trek to Pangpema/Kanchenjunga North Base Camp (5,388 m/6-7 hrs): Our trail today goes through Kanchenjunga Glacier. We will trek through difficult sections to Pangpema, we then climb up where we can get magnificent views Mount Kanchenjunga, Chang Himal and Jannu. Enjoy the views at stay overnight.
Day 16: Trek back to Kambachen (4,050 m/6-7 hrs): This day we return same way back to Kambachen. It will be a descending trail all the way back to Kambachen. Reach Kambachen and stay overnight there. Overnight.
Day 17: Kambachen to Ghunsa (3,595 m/3-4 hrs): The trail from Kambachen descends through forests. On the way back we can also enjoy wonderful mountain views. Reach Ghunasa for overnight.
Day 18: Ghunsa to Sele Le (4,290 m/6-7 hrs): The trail from Ghunasa climbs steep up and gradually leads us to Sele Le. As it is an uphill we walk slowly. Overnight in Sele Le.
Day 19: Sele Le to Cheram (3,870 m/ 6-7 hrs): This is levelled as one of the tough trekking days of Kanchenjunga. We will pass several pass including. Mirgin La, Sinon La and Sinepache. With experiencing tough trekking, we will reach to Cheram for overnight.
Day 20: Cheram to Ramche (4,580 m) and trek back to Cheram( 4-5 hrs trek): The trail to Ramche first passes Yamlung Glacier then pass Lapsang Village before reaching Ramche. From there we continue our walk to the southern face of Kanchenjunga and even up from there for mesmerising views of Jannu Himal and to explore Oktang Monastery. Enjoy exploring. After then we will come back to Cheram for today’s overnight.
Day 21: Cheram to Tortong (2,995 m/5-6 hrs): The trail from Cheram to Tortong is all the way down through rhododendron forest. Enjoy walking on the virgin trails. Overnight in Tortong.
Day 22: Tortong to Yamphudin (2,080 m/ 6-7 hrs):Setting destination Yampudin, we take descend trail and continue our walk to Yamphudin which is a wonderful village. Enjoy local culture and explore the beautiful village. Overnight at Yamphudin.
Day 23: Yamphudin to Yangpang (1,007 m/ 6-7 hrs): Today we will trek to Yangpang passing several small streams and villages to reach Yangpang. The trail also passes Mamankhe where we can find Limbu Museum and Cultural centre. Overnight at Yangpang.
Day 24: Yangpang to Thorpu (1,500 m/5-6 hrs): This day we will trek to Thorpu where we will cross several small but wonderful local settlements. It will be a nice experience to interact with local along the way to Thorpu. Reach Thorpu and stay overnight.
Day 25: Thorpu to Birtamod (300 m/ 5-6 hrs): This day we will drive to Birtamod from Thorpu. We spend our night it Birtamod in a guest house. Overnight.
Day 26: Drive to Bhadrapur and fly back to Kathmandu: Final day of Kanchenjunga trekking. We first drive to Bhadrapur. From Bhadrapur, we fly back to Kathmandu. In Kathmandu take some rest in free time. In evening join, farewell dinner organise by Visit Heaven Trek Team. Enjoy Nepali food with your trekking team. Overnight.
Day 27: Fly back home: A Visit Heaven Trek representative will help you to transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport to catch your returning flight. We hope to see you again in Nepal. Namaste.
