Everest Marathon is an adventurous run through the rough Himalayan Trail is probably the world’s most thrilling and exhilarating run. The fabulous trip is also popular as Tenzing Hillary Mount Everest Marathon which was started in the tribute of successful ascent of Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary in 29th May 1953. Started from 2003 this marathon held annually exactly on the date, 29th May when those two legends conquered Mount Everest very first time together.
Everest Marathon starts with a scenic flight to Lukla from Kathmandu and a wonderful trek through the Sherpa villages, passing dense Sagarmatha National Park and finally to Kalapathar (5,545)- the most amazing viewpoint which offers stunning views of mountains including Mount Everest in touching distance. During Everest, Marathon runners need to stay overnight at Everest Base Camp (5,364) in the tented camp which is itself a memorable experience.
On the race day, the race starts from Everest Base Camp and goes through the rough downhill to Namche Bazar (3,446m.). The adventurous race combines with superb mountain views and also covers the Pangboche Monastery (The oldest in the region) and Tengboche Monastery (The biggest in the Himalayas). The measured distance covered by the Everest Marathon is 42.195 km (26.2 miles) and the trail is mostly downhill and rough.
Participants need least 17 days in Nepal to complete the Everest Marathon. Everest Marathon 2018 is going to held on 29th 2017 and it is the 16th edition of the thrilling Himalayan race. 3 Hours Before Flight Time
As you arrive in Tribhuvan International Airport Kathmandu, a Visit Heaven representative will be there for your warm welcome and accompany you to transfer to your hotel. At evening you will be joining welcome dinner with Visit Heaven staff in Thamel at one of the typical Nepali restaurant.
Kathmandu Sightseeing program is organised to introduce some of the UNESCO World Heritage listed sites of Kathmandu. This sightseeing covers the visiting of Syambhunath; the monkey temple, Pashupatinath; Hindus god place, Boudhanath; the largest stupa of South Asia and Kathmandu Durbar Square.
We take a scenic early morning flight to Lukla. Our breakfast place will be Lukla (2810m.) this day. From Lukla, our trail moves forward to Phakding with following Dudh Koshi River or River of Milk. It will take approx. 3 hours to reach Phakding.
A day when we get the first glimpse of Mt Everest (8848m.). We take breakfast at Phakding and starts our trek with following Dudh Koshi River. Today we will be trekking for 6 ½ hours to Namche Bazar.
As we gain the altitude this a rest day to acclimatise at Lukla. Visiting the museum at Lukla and the beautiful Sherpa settlement of Lukla or doing a walk up will be the activities for the day. As this, the last place for arranging the gears just check them and make sure needed equipment is included.
Day to trek Tang once, the monastery place and one of the stunning view place of mountains in Everest Region. As the altitude gets the today’s trail rewards us with the splendid views of sky touching mountains including Mt Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam, Thamserku and other stunning mountains of Khumbu Region. With 6 hours long walk we will reach Tengboche.
Today we will trek to Pangboche; a village having one of the oldest monasteries in Khumbu Region. A walk with stunning mountains views will take 6 hours to get Pangboche. Reach Pangboche and enjoy roaming around on free time.
As we have to gain the more altitude we will take another acclimatise day at Pangboche. To get familiar with the high altitude this day we can take a hike to halfway of Nagarstang hill. After getting back from hiking we will have enough time to explore around Pangboche.
Take early breakfast and get ready for walking to Lobuche. This day we walk about 5 hours to reach Lobuche through frozen rivers. Overnight at Lobuche.
After taking breakfast at Lobuche we resume our trek to Everest Base Camp. Gorakshep (5180m.) will be the lunch place for today. As we arrive at Everest Base Camp, we will enjoy around Everest Base Camp. Overnight at tented camp.
This day is for preparation and acclimatisation. During the night stay, it might be colder so we highly recommend taking enough warm clothes and thick sleeping bags. Overnight at tented camp.
This day we will be participating in Everest Marathon 2016 with co-racers. The racing trail of Everest marathon is 42 km in total which starts from Everest Base and ends at Namche Bazar. Generally, marathon kicks off at 7 am in the morning and the marathon trail consists drink stations, medical back up and good monitoring.
As we have completed Everest Marathon 2016 yesterday, we can make the late start today. The trail from Namche Bazar steeply down to Dudh Koshi River; passes Jorsalle and Monjo to get Phakding which is the overnight place for today.
From Phakding today we will walk back to Lukla. It will be just 3 hours walking today. At Lukla, we will enjoy the last night dinner with our porters.
Last day of Everest Marathon 2015 trip. From Lukla, we take a scenic early morning fly back to Kathmandu. After reaching Kathmandu we will enough time on which we can either take rest or can do some shopping around Thamel. At evening we will be joining for farewell dinner with Visit Heaven Trek staff at one of the typical Nepali restaurant in Thamel.
