Tour Details

Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most famous trekking on the earth. It follows the same route Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa approached during the Everest Expedition in 1950’s.  It is longer Everest trekking in compare to fly in fly out Everest Base Camp Trekking and offers greater fun and excitement too. Like, 13 days Everest Base Camp Trekking or 10 Days Rapid Everest Base Camp Trekking trekkers do not fly to Lukla, they drive to Jiri instead but they fly back from Lukla after trekking.

This amazing trekking in Everest Region offers to explore the cultural and natural wonders of Khumbu Region. Meeting the Sherpa people in Namche Bazar, witnessing their cultures and sharing the smiles is something special on the trekking. Roaming around Tengboche Monastery-biggest Buddhist monastery in Everest region and catching the mesmerizing views of sunrise and sunset in the Himalayas is something last long in your memory. Trek through the dense pine and rhododendron forests which enable to see some wildlife is another great part of Everest Base Camp Trek via Jiri. In spring walking through rhododendron forest becomes more exciting as it blooms in rainbow color. Another tick of Jiri to EBC trek is Kalapathar, perfect viewpoints to see a sunrise in Mount Everest and neighboring mountains.

We have carefully designed Jiri to Everest Base Camp trekking itinerary which lasts for 21 days and have included sufficient acclimatization days in the mountains. Best seasons for Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek:

As Trekking in Everest Region is a seasonal adventure tour and trek activities, we’ve two best seasons for this Everest Trek and they are as follows:

Spring(March, April, May): The season in which rhododendron blooms with its decent color and beauty and due to which colorful hills are spotted throughout the journey wherever possible. One also gets an opportunity to collect the clear and picturesque view of the majestic Mount Everest and their neighbors.

Autumn(September, October, November): The perfect season to trek in which dry air is dispersed all over the nation and due to which the sky seems to be crystal clear. The trekking trails are also neither too wet nor too slippery. One can enjoy the breathtaking transparent views of the snowcapped Mount Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Nuptse and so on.

Note:

As it is one of the challenging treks in the Everest region with a quite long duration as compared to Everest Sunrise Trek, it is highly not recommended in the winter season(December, January, February). And similarly, due to wet and slippery trail, the Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek is absolutely not possible during rainy season(June, July, August) as well.

From Bhandar, the trail drops into a canyon, passes Baranda and reaches Likhu Khola. Spend some time watching the grey Langur Monkeys playing in the lush tree tops. Continue climbing up over the ridge that makes up Kenja, a small village of Newars and Magars, the ethnic groups of this area. Just after Kenja, you begin to climb up towards Lamjura Pass. Follow the ridge to Sete, which lies about half-way up the pass. Here you can take some time to explore the small local Buddhist monastery.

Day 6Sete to Junbesi (3530 meters/6-8 hrs trek) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

Taking the scenic route, the trek heads into the mountain forests of huge moss-covered rhododendron, magnolia, and birch trees. About an hour away from Sete the trail reaches Dagchu and continues to climb to Goyom before reaching the top of Lamjura Pass. The route then descends steeply through fields and pasture land to the small settlement of Tragdobuk before moving on to Junbesi, a splendid Sherpa village with beautiful surroundings. Spend the afternoon exploring the village and the Sherpa way of life.

Day 7Junbesi to Nuntala (Up to 2980 meters/7-8 hrs trek) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

Today, the day 7 of the Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek, the trail crosses the Junbesi Khola and heads towards Phaphlu, the administrative centre of Solukhumbu district. The trail passes through forests of blue pine and prickly-leaved oak. Climbing up the ridge at Khurtang, you get your first tantalising glimpse of Everest, as well as Thamserku and Mera peaks.

Descend through the forest, cross two small rivers, and then cross the larger Ringmo River. From the river, climb up towards Tragsindho Pass, decorated with chortens, mani walls, and strings of prayer flags. Follow the valley north and enter the Khumbu are at Nuntala.

Day 8Nuntala to Bupse (2300 meters/7 hrs trek) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

From Nuntala, the trail descends to the Dudh Koshi. The path passes through many Sherpa and Magar villages along the river’s course. You enter a forest for some time before climbing upwards through terraced rice fields. The village of Jubhing is the only Rai settlement in this region. Descend and cross the Khari Khola before making the steep climb to Bupse. At Bupse, there is a gompa to explore.

Day 9Bupse to Choplung (2860 meters/6-8 hrs trek) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

From Bupse, enter the next valley and descend across the river. As you round the bottom of Khari La valley, you will see Cho Oyu and Gyachung Kang in front of you. Follow the valley for about three hours, slowly climbing out of it and up to the ridge. Entering the next valley, you will see the holy mountain of Khumbiyula. Climb upwards to meet the main trail from Lukla. You will pass a spectacular waterfall and gorge before emerging out into the pasture land surrounding Choplung.

Day 10Choplung to Namche Bazaar (3420 meters/6-8 hrs trek) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

Trek about 1 ½ hours to Phadking then through forests of blue pine and rhododendrons to a small village called Tok Tok. The village gets its name from the sound the metal works in the village. After about an hour, you will enter a steep-walled canyon. Pass a waterfall, cross to the other bank of the river, climb upwards through the vegetable farms at Chumowa. Cross another river and climb steeply through a cleft in the canyon wall.

The trail then flattens and enters Sagarmatha National Park. After entering the park, the trail descends a little and crosses the Dudh Koshi via a suspension bridge. From here the trail follows the riverbank, at times crisscrossing it until it meets the Bhote Koshi. Next, you enter a forest and climb up to Namche. Just before Namche, you should get another view of Everest tucked behind the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. Namche Bazaar was once a trading centre where grain from the south was traded with salt from Tibet. Now it’s a bustling commercial centre for the entire Khumbu region.

Day 11In Namche Bazaar (3440 meters) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

Get acclimatised while exploring the local markets and mingling with the people of Namche Bazaar. Walk up to the Everest view point to glimpse your final destination and visit the local cultural museum.

Day 12Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche (3860 meters/5 hrs trek) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

Today, the Day 12 of our Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek, the trail turns northeast from Namche along a tributary valley. The mountain views start to open up, becoming more dramatic as the steep climb approaches the holy ground of Tyangboche. Tyangboche monastery is the highest monastery in the world and is set against the dramatic backdrop of some of the highest Himalayas in Nepal – Mount Everest, Mount Kwangde, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Amadablam.

Day 13Tyangboche to Dingboche (4360 meters/5 hrs trek) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

From Tyangboche trek past Pangboche, where a gompa holds the famous ‘Yeti scalp.’ This region lies in high altitude – agriculture is barely possible and the lives of the local Sherpas are difficult. Much of the walking in this area is up a comparatively gentle gradient, although a leisurely pace is recommended due to the high altitude.

Day 14In Dingboche (4360 meters) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

While taking an extra day to adjust to the higher altitude, hike up to Nagajun Hill (5050 meters) or Chukung village, which offers magnificent views of Amadablam, the Makalu Himalaya, and the glaciers and lakes that lie below them.

Day 15 Dingboche to Lobuche (4930 meters/5 hrs trek) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

Leaving Dingboche, the trail ascends gently but still at an easy pace. Walking past frozen rivers, we reach Lobuche where stone houses sit in an icy wilderness of stunning beauty. Once in Lobuche, a sense of being close to the ultimate goal overwhelms you.

Day 16Lobuche to Gorakshep (5160 meters/3 hrs trek) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

The trail from Lobuche progresses gradually upwards alongside the Khumbu Glacier. En route you will see the black mound of Kalapattar with its frozen lake in front of Mount Pumori. Drop down to the sandy shores of this lake and progress around its north shore to Gorakhshep. Gorakhshep is the starting place of the famous Everest Marathon, a foot race to Namche Bazaar! Around the area, you may also see the splendid Tibetan Snow Cocks, which you can approach quite closely.

Day 17Gorakshep to Kalapattar (5623 meters) to Everest Base Camp (5400 meters) to Gorakhshep (5160 meters/6-8 hrs trek) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

An early morning climb up to Kalapattar (‘black rock‘) is worth the effort- the views of Everest’s South Face and Col are out of this world at sunrise. After making your descent, follow the trail for another 2 hours until you reach Everest Base Camp. You will cross the rocky surface of the Khumbu Glacier on the way.

It’s also possible to go to the foot of the Khumbu Icefall, the starting point of the ascent of Everest. There are no views of Everest from the actual base camp, that’s why the ascent of Kalapatter in the morning is recommended. It would be a shame to go all that way and not see the mountain! In the afternoon, return to Gorakshep.

Day 18 - 20Gorakshep to Lukla (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

In the following days, retrace your steps back to Lukla, stopping at Pheriche, Tengboche, and Namche on the way. It’s not all downhill, though!

Day 21Lukla to Kathmandu (1335 meters/45 minute air flight) (Breakfast included)

The flight back to Kathmandu is short but spectacular. Enjoy a bird’s eye view of the mountains. Welcome back to Kathmandu and civilisation!

Day 22In Kathmandu (1335 meters) (Breakfast included)

Enjoy a free day to explore, shop, or simply relax in Thamel before rejoining the group for dinner and drinks to celebrate the success of your Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek.

Day 23Departure (Breakfast included)

A Visit Heaven Trek representative will accompany you to the airport to catch your returning flight. We hope to see you again soon!
